Naba Uday Farmers Producer Companylimited is in Paniyalguri. Shib Lal Barman is the one who helped get this all together in the first place. We are out in a quiet part of the region, where the air is fresh and the trees are thick and green. It is a beautiful place to work, even if it is completely exhausting most days. We get up when the sky is still grey and head out to the fields before the sun gets too hot. Paniyalguri is our home, and we know every inch of the land here. We grow what we can, trying to keep things simple and honest. We do not have a lot of fancy technology to help us. It is mostly just our hands and a few old machines that we keep running. Our producer company is just a way for us to stay organized as a group. We meet at Shib Lal’s place to talk about what needs to be bought and where we are going to sell the harvest this time. There is a lot of tea drinking and a lot of debating about the best time to plant the next crop. We do not always agree on things, but we always figure it out in the end. It is a local effort, through and through. We are not looking to be the biggest company. We just want to work.
