Singh Dhaba

Being out on the Rampur Road is different than being in the city. We are located in Fatehganj West, right near the bypass. It is a place where travelers often stop when they are tired of driving. You see a lot of trucks parked outside on the dusty shoulder of the road. Bareilly is a bit of a drive from here but we get plenty of locals too. The wind blows a lot of dust around so we are always dusting off the tables. It is a constant battle. We serve tea and food at all hours. Sometimes a bus pulls up and suddenly we have forty people all wanting something at the same time. You have to stay calm and just keep cooking. My brothers and I take turns sleeping so someone is always here. It is a long day on the highway. We do not have much of a view, just the road and the cars going by, but it is home for us. The tea pot is always bubbling on the stove. We do not use any fancy machines, just our hands and old pots. It is a simple life out here in Fatehganj West. People know if they stop here they will get a hot meal and a place to sit for a minute. That is all we really aim for. The lights stay on all night.
