Saurashtra-Kutch Dairy Project

This project, the Saurashtra-Kutch Dairy Project, is run out of the National Dairy Development Board. We focus on the dairy situation in the Saurashtra and Kutch areas of Gujarat. If you have ever been out that way, you know it is a tough landscape. It is very dry and the farmers there work incredibly hard. Our job is to help manage the dairy development in those specific spots. We spend a lot of our time looking at maps and figures. But it is not just office work. We often have to go out and see how things are going on the ground. The dust out there gets everywhere. We work with a lot of different people from different backgrounds. It is a bit of a mix. The office can be quite formal because it is a big board, but our specific team is more relaxed. We just talk about what needs to be done for the day. There is a lot of tea drinking and long discussions about milk yields. We don't have any flashy slogans. We just try to make the dairy systems work a bit better for the people out in the villages. It is honest work and it keeps us busy all year round. Sometimes the travel is long and tiring, but seeing the farms makes it worth the effort. It is rewarding in its own way.
