Manav Public School is tucked away on Maqbool Road, right in the Anand Avenue area of Amritsar. If you know this part of the city, you know it can get quite lively with all the traffic and people moving around. Our gates open early every day. We’ve been here long enough that the walls have a few scuffs, but we try to keep things tidy enough for the students. It’s a local place. Most of the staff walk or take a rickshaw to get here in the morning. We don’t go in for those big, shiny advertisements you see on the main roads. It feels more like a community hub than a business. The rooms are filled with desks that have seen a lot of use over the years. During the lunch break, the sound of kids chatting fills the whole street. We deal with the usual school stuff—lost sweaters, broken pencils, and the occasional scraped knee. It is just how a school should be, really. Nothing too formal. We know the parents by their first names often because we see them every day at the gate. Amritsar has its own pace, and we just follow that. We focus on the daily tasks, making sure the lessons get done and the building stays standing. It’s practical work. We’re just here on Maqbool Road, doing what schools do, day in and day out.
