Dav International School

You can find Dav International School right on the By Pass Road in Verka. Being in Amritsar, it gets quite busy around here with all the traffic passing by. The school sits there near the road, and you can often hear the trucks honking as they go past. It is a big building with a lot of windows that we have to keep shut to block out some of the dust. Inside, it is just like any other school you have seen. There are rows of wooden benches and cupboards full of old textbooks. The teachers come in early to get their notes ready before the bell rings at eight. We have a big assembly area where everyone stands in lines every morning. It gets pretty hot in the summer, so we try to get through the morning part quickly. The staff room is usually a bit of a mess with tea cups and half-graded papers everywhere. We do not have anything too flashy, just the basic stuff kids need for their classes. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to open all the doors to let a breeze in. The kids do not seem to mind much as long as they get to talk to their friends. Verka is a good spot for us because it is easy for the buses to get in and out from the main road. It is just a plain, hardworking school.
