If you come down to Shiv Nagar Colony, you’ll find us at number 34. Being near the Islamabad P.O. and the J.F. Mill makes this a pretty specific part of town. Anju Bhatia Architect is a small operation, mostly run from this office in the colony. It’s quiet here compared to the main roads, which is good for focusing on the details of a house plan. We do a lot of residential work because that’s what people in Shiv Nagar and the surrounding areas need. Our office is filled with rolls of tracing paper and a lot of different pens that always seem to go missing when you need them. It’s a comfortable space, not some cold office building. We talk to neighbors and locals who are looking to add a room or start a fresh build from the ground up. The mill nearby is a landmark for us, and everyone knows the post office too. We spend our days measuring things out and making sure the sunlight will hit the rooms just right. It’s a lot of practical thinking. We don't have a big staff, so when you come in, you’re talking to the people actually doing the drawing. It’s an honest way to work. We’ve lived with these streets for a long time and we know how the houses here are put together. Just simple work for local people. Most of the time it's just about getting the basics right for a family home.
