Alappuzha Farmer Producer Company Limited

Out here in Kuttanad, the water is everywhere, and that’s where Alappuzha Farmer Producer Company Limited does its work. We are located at TC 4/104 Gopika Ponga PO in Nedumudy Moncombu. If you know this area, you know it’s a bit different from the rest of Kerala because of how low the land is. We spend a lot of our time dealing with the challenges of farming in Alappuzha, where the paddy fields are often below sea level. It’s hard work, and that’s why we grouped together as a producer company. Our office in Moncombu is a place where we sit down and figure out how to handle the latest harvest or what to do about the rising water levels. It’s a very local thing, run by people who live right here in the neighborhood. We don't have a lot of fancy equipment or a big marketing team. Mostly it’s just us talking over tea about how to get our produce to the market. There are a lot of members now, and keeping everyone on the same page can be a bit of a headache sometimes, but we manage. The heat can be quite something in the afternoons, but the work has to happen anyway. We are just trying to make sure the farmers in Kuttanad get a fair shake. It is a simple life and we run the business in a way that makes sense for us. It’s not about being fancy, just about being fair to the land.
