As you can probably guess from the name, we spend almost all our time dealing with coconuts. It’s a big part of life in Kerala and we wanted to do something to help that area of work. The office is just a regular house really. We converted part of it to handle the business stuff. It gets a bit crowded when we have a lot of bags or samples lying around. Mavelikkara is a nice place to work from. We aren't some giant corporation with hundreds of employees. It is just a few of us who know the coconut business inside and out. We talk to the local growers and try to figure out how to get more out of the trees. Sometimes the husk processing takes forever and it can be a bit messy. We don’t mind the hard work though. It is just part of the job. People drop by Savitha Bhavan to ask questions or just to see how things are going. We don’t have any polished scripts to tell people. We just tell them what we know about the coconuts and the market. It’s practical and down to earth. We just keep track of the trees and the harvest cycles throughout the year.
