Vikas Dye Cutters is tucked away in Naya Bazar, specifically in Bisayat Galli. If you have ever been to Naya Bazar, you know how crowded and narrow the lanes can get. Bisayat Galli is one of those spots where you really have to watch your step because there are people and carts everywhere. Our shop is right in the thick of it. We do dye cutting work, which is a noisy and precise business. The sounds of metal hitting metal echo off the old walls of the lane all day long. The shop itself is small and packed with different cutters and templates we have made over the years. It’s a bit dark inside because the buildings are so close together, so we have to keep the lights on even in the middle of the day. We have been in this location for a long time, and we know all the other shopkeepers around us. Someone is always coming by with a glass of tea or just to chat for a minute while we work. It’s a very traditional way of doing business. We don't use computers for much, preferring to keep our records in big handwritten ledgers. Customers come in with their requirements, and we figure out how to cut the shapes they need. It is hard work and the air is often thick with the smell of metal, but it’s what we know how to do.
