Umiya Engineering Works (Odhav Gidc-Tripada Estate

We’re over in Odhav Gidc, specifically in the Tripada Industrial Estate. It’s a noisy area with all the factories around, but that’s where the work is. We go by Umiya Engineering Works. At number 7 on Gidc Road, near Ambica Nagar, that’s where you’ll find our shed. We do engineering work, mostly fixing parts or making things for other local industries. The floor is usually covered in metal shavings and oil, which is normal for a place like ours. We’ve got a few machines running most of the day. It’s hard work and the summer gets really hot inside the estate. My crew and I have been at this for a good number of years. We don't spend much time on the computer or doing fancy paperwork unless we have to. Most of the time we are just measuring things or running the lathe. It’s an industrial area, so it’s not pretty, but it’s where stuff gets built. We know the neighbors, the guys at the other units. Sometimes we share tools or help each other out. It’s a community of workers. We just try to finish the jobs on time so the next one can come in. The road outside can be a mess when it rains, but we keep the machines going regardless. We started small and just stayed here because the location works for the heavy trucks coming in and out. It is just basic, honest engineering work done by people who know their machines.
