Shalby Hospital

Our Shalby Hospital is right on S G Road, just opposite Karnavati Club. It’s one of those parts of Ahmedabad that never seems to stop moving. If you stand by the windows on the upper floors, you can see the cars stretched out for miles during rush hour. The building itself is quite large, which is good because we get people coming in from all over the city and even from villages nearby. We spend our shifts walking back and forth between the wards and the labs. The tiles are a bit worn in the high-traffic areas, but we keep everything scrubbed down. It’s a very functional environment. There are no fancy decorations on the walls, just the necessary signs and some clocks that don't always sync up perfectly. We have a lot of different departments, so you see doctors in green scrubs and nurses in blue scurrying around. Lunch breaks are usually taken in turns so someone is always at the desk. The heat outside can be brutal in the summer, so we make sure the fans and the cooling systems stay running. It’s a big operation, but at the end of the day, it’s just a group of people working together in a big concrete block. We know the security guards by name, and we know which tea stall across the road has the best biscuits when we finally get off work. The evening shift change is always the loudest part of the day.
