Vijay Namkeen & Sweets

We’re located at 1077/10, just outside Delhi Gate on Shahibaug Road. It’s an old part of town, so it’s always crowded and noisy. Vijay Namkeen & Sweets has been here for a while. The smell of frying snacks usually hits you before you even see the shop. We start early in the morning, getting everything ready before the sun gets too high. It’s a family-run kind of thing. My uncle handles the sweets and I look after the namkeen section mostly. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that. We just make the food and put it out on the counters. Some days the line goes out the door, especially during festivals. Other days it’s just the regulars who stop by on their way home from work. The building is old and we have to fix things constantly. The fans are always running to keep the heat down from the kitchen. It gets sweaty and loud, but that’s just how it is. We use the same recipes that have been around for years. We don't try to be fancy. People like the taste, so we keep it the same. Shahibaug Road is always full of traffic, so we see a lot of people passing by. It’s a busy life but we enjoy it. There's something nice about seeing someone enjoy a snack you just made. We hope to stay here at Delhi Gate for many more years to come.
