Working at Slamall Cross Road—well, most people call it Shyamal, but we see all sorts of spellings—is definitely an experience. It's one of those spots in the city that never seems to go to sleep. We are set up here as a private limited entity, but it doesn't feel like a big corporate place when you're actually inside. Most of the time, we're just busy filing paperwork or talking to patients who walk in. The building has been here for a while and you can tell by the way the floor sounds in certain spots. We don't spend much time on fancy decorations or anything. It's more about having enough pens that actually work and making sure the water cooler is filled up. The intersection outside is always a mess of rickshaws and honking, but once you get inside, it’s a bit more settled. Our team is pretty small, and we all know each other's habits. Someone is always bringing in snacks to share in the back room during the afternoon slump. We deal with all kinds of situations, from simple stuff to more complicated medical things. It’s just how it goes in a hospital. We don’t have a big marketing department or anyone telling us how to talk. We just speak to people like they’re our neighbors, because usually, they are. It’s a straightforward way to run a business, and it keeps things simple for everyone involved in the daily grind.
