National Sanitation & Environment Improvement Foundation

We are up on the 4th floor of the Sahyog Comm Centre at number 10. The climb up isn’t too bad, but we usually hope the elevator is working so we don’t have to carry heavy boxes up the stairs. Our foundation works on sanitation and environmental issues around here. It sounds like a lot, but mostly it’s just us trying to get people to think more about where their trash goes and how to keep the local water clean. The office is pretty cluttered with maps and old flyers from previous projects. We have a few desks pushed together and a very old coffee machine that makes a lot of noise. We don’t have a big team, just a handful of us who care about the neighborhood. Sometimes we spend all day out in the streets talking to shopkeepers and other times we are stuck inside doing paperwork for the government. It’s not a glamorous job. We get our hands dirty quite a bit. The view from our floor is just a lot of grey buildings and the busy street below. We’ve been doing this for a few years now and while things change slowly, we think it’s worth the effort. We don't have any corporate polish or fancy slogans. We just want the area to be a bit cleaner and healthier for everyone who lives here. It's just plain work for regular people.
