Maheshwari Hospital

Our space is located in Newyork Plaza, which sits right on Judges Bunglow Road in the Vastrapur area. It is a very active part of town, especially being so close to the BSNL telephone exchange and the main route towards Shahibaug. The plaza itself is usually full of cars and scooters parked every which way, which can be a bit of a headache. When you come up to the hospital, you notice it’s a lot quieter inside than it is out on the main road. We have a fair amount of room here, with different sections for different medical needs. The windows look out over the street, so we see the traffic jams during rush hour while we are going about our tasks. We have a routine of checking the equipment every morning and making sure the beds are all made up with fresh linens. The staff mostly brings lunch from home, so there is usually a smell of different spices and home-cooked food around midday in the break area. Sometimes the cooling system makes a low humming noise, but you get used to it after working here for a while. We spend a lot of time walking up and down the long hallways between the rooms. It’s not a fancy place, just a functional hospital where we do our jobs. We see people from all over this side of the city. The evening shift usually takes over once the sun starts to set.
