Handloom Centre (Gurukul Road)

Handloom Centre is at 13 Shanti Niketan, which is on the Vishram Nagar Road in the Gurukul area. We are quite close to the Hbk School, so we see all the kids and parents passing by every afternoon when school lets out. The shop has been here in this building for many years. It feels more like a part of the neighborhood than a business sometimes. We have rolls of fabric and handloom items stacked on the wooden shelves. The floor is made of old stone and it’s seen a lot of foot traffic over the years. We don't have any bright lights or fancy displays. We just put the items out where people can see them and feel the texture. Usually, there is a bit of a breeze coming through the front door, which is nice. We spend our time chatting with the regulars who have been coming to us for a long time. It’s a slow-paced kind of place. We don't use a computer for everything; we still write some things down in a big ledger book. It’s just the way we have always done it. Sometimes the neighbors stop by just to say hello or ask about the weather. We aren't trying to grow into some huge corporation. We just like being here on Gurukul Road and doing what we do. It’s a quiet life but we are very satisfied with it. We hope to stay here for a long time to come. It’s home for us now.
