Anokhi (Navrangpura)

Anokhi is down in the basement of the Devbhumi Complex in Navrangpura. It’s right across from the Anal Flats and not too far from the Vijay Char Rasta. Since we’re in the basement, it stays pretty cool even when the sun is beating down on the street outside. You have to walk down a set of narrow concrete stairs to get to us. The space is filled with all sorts of fabrics and items, and it can feel a bit crowded when we get a new shipment in. We spend a lot of time just organizing things and making sure everything is in the right pile. The lighting isn't the brightest, so we have a lot of floor lamps scattered around the corners. You can always hear the sound of the traffic and the horns from the intersection upstairs, but you get used to it after a while. It’s a busy neighborhood and there’s always something happening right outside the door. We don’t have a big fancy sign, just a small one near the stairs. Most people find us because they’re already in the area for something else. We like being in Navrangpura because it’s easy to get to, even if the parking is a bit difficult for our guests. We just keep things moving here, folding clothes and talking to the people who wander in. It’s a very practical way to spend the day and we like the atmosphere of the basement.
