Divyangdost Foundation

Our group started here in Vadodara a while back. The office is tucked away in Naman House, which is part of 1/2-B Haribhakti Colony. If you know the Race Course area, we are just behind the post office. It's a busy part of town but our street stays relatively quiet most mornings. We don't have a big fancy lobby or anything like that. Just a few desks and some chairs where we sit and talk about what needs to get done. Most days, we spend our time thinking about how to help people with disabilities, or Divyang as they are called. It is hard work sometimes. The fans hum overhead while we look through papers or answer the phone. Sometimes neighbors stop by just to say hello or ask what we're up to. We try to keep things simple. There’s usually a pot of tea going in the small kitchen corner. We aren't trying to change the whole world overnight, just trying to be good friends to those who need one in this city. Vadodara is a good place for this kind of work because people generally care about each other. We’ve lived here a long time, so we know the shortcuts and the local shops. It feels like home because it is. We just show up every morning, unlock the door, and see who needs a hand. That is basically the whole story of how we run things in this little office.
