We’ve been here at 1 Piyuraj House for a long time now. People know us at Swastik Char Rasta because we’re right there in the middle of all that C G Road traffic. It’s a busy spot but we like it. Most days we just spend our time sorting through different materials and checking on orders that come in. It’s not a very fancy place, just a workspace where we try to get things done right. Sometimes the tea guy from down the street comes by and we take a break, but mostly it’s just us working with the cushions and the fabrics. My father started this and now I’m here most mornings before the sun gets too hot. We have piles of stuff everywhere in the back room and it’s a bit of a mess, but we know where everything is. Clients come in and they ask for something specific, and we usually have to dig around to find the right shade of cloth or the right kind of padding. It’s just how we do things here. C G Road has changed a lot since we first opened up, with more cars and bigger buildings around us, but inside the shop, it feels pretty much the same as it always did. We don’t have any big meetings or anything, we just talk to the people who walk in and try to help them find what they need for their homes.
