Anand Handloom House

Anand Handloom House is located at F-5 in the Centre Point building. We are right on India Colony Road, across from Jagatnagar in the Bapunagar area. It is a very busy spot. There are always rickshaws and bikes buzzing past our front door. Inside the shop, things are a bit calmer, though we have a lot of fabric everywhere. Handloom cloth takes up most of our shelf space. We have stacks of different materials piled up so high they almost touch the ceiling. Sometimes the smell of the fresh cotton and dyes is quite strong when you first walk in. We spend the day unfolding fabrics for people to look at and then folding them back up again, which is a lot of work. The lights in Centre Point aren't the brightest, but we have our own lamps to see the colors clearly. Bapunagar is a place where people know their cloth, so we have to be careful about what we keep in stock. We don't have any fancy displays or mannequins in the window. We just put the actual cloth out so people can see what it is. It is a bit of a tight squeeze when more than two or three people are in the shop at once, but we manage. We just keep doing what we have been doing for years, selling good cloth to the people who come by our little corner and looking through the stacks for the right piece.
