Om Pipes Steel Traders, which some people also call Om Trading Co., is based out of Plot No. 148/a in Vapi. We have shops 1 through 4 in the Om Pipe Industrial Complex, which is right near the ICICI Bank ATM in the 2nd Phase of GIDC. Having four shops next to each other helps us keep the different types of steel and pipes separated so we can find things faster. It’s a busy corner of the industrial area and there’s always someone coming or going. We spend a lot of time loading pipes onto trucks and checking the thickness of the steel that comes in. It’s heavy work and can get messy, especially when it rains and the yard gets a bit muddy. We don't use any fancy systems, just a lot of manual counting and writing things down in the ledger. The staff here is used to the weight and the noise of the metal clanging together. Sometimes the yard gets cramped because we have a lot of stock, but we manage to fit everything in. It’s a practical business. We deal with the steel every day and know which pipe is which just by looking at them now. If you’re looking for the ATM, you’ll probably see our signs and the stacks of pipes right next to it. We stay open pretty late most days because there is always one more delivery to finish before we go home. It’s a lot of physical work, but it keeps us busy.
