Umiya Flour Mill

If you look for the Center Point Building on Sardar Patel Road, you’ll find Umiya Flour Mill at No. Ge 7. We are right across from the GIDC Police Station and near the Subhash Circle. It’s a very busy part of Ankleshwar GIDC. There is always someone driving by or some commotion at the circle. Our shop is a bit small, but it gets the job done. We have the grinders pushed up against the back wall to make room for the sacks of wheat and maize. It gets crowded in here when three or four people are waiting. I usually have a radio playing, but you can’t hear it over the grinders. The dust settles on everything—the ledges, the light bulbs, even my eyelashes. It’s just how a flour mill is. We don't try to be anything else. People come in from all over Ankleshwar because the location is easy to get to. We handle the usual stuff, mostly wheat for rotis. It’s a lot of standing around and lifting. Sometimes the machines act up and I have to get the tools out to fix a belt or a motor. It’s not a clean job, but it’s what we do. We don’t have a website or anything like that. Just the shop door and the sound of the stones turning all day long for whoever stops by.
