The drive out to Dabhasa Village on the Vadodara Jambusar Highway is a long one, but you get used to it after a while. Swiss Pac Pvt Ltd is situated right there on Gujarat State Highway 160. It’s a pretty busy road with a lot of heavy traffic heading toward Padra, so there’s always a bit of a roar from the trucks passing by outside our gate. Our facility is quite large because of the kind of packaging work we do. It’s hot in Gujarat, that’s no secret, and the factory floor can get pretty stuffy in the middle of May. We have these big fans going all the time, but they mostly just move the warm air around and don't help much. The team here is a mix of people from the village and others who commute from the city. We don't have a lot of formal meetings; usually, we just talk about what needs to happen while we are walking across the floor. There’s a certain rhythm to the place, the sound of the machines and the constant movement of pallets. It isn't a polished environment by any means. There are ink stains on some of the tables and the floors show the wear and tear of years of work. We have a small area where we keep our bags and water bottles. It’s an honest way to spend the day, even if the commute on the highway is a bit of a headache during the monsoon season.
