Shur Shakti Music Academy

I run Shur Shakti Music Academy in Vadodara. We are located at M-22/256 in Sangamvadi. The easiest way to find us is to look behind Akshar Apartment. It’s a relatively quiet spot, which is good for what we do. The rooms are filled with the sounds of various instruments being played, sometimes all at once. We have harmoniums, tablas, and some guitars. It’s not a professional recording studio, just a place for people to come and learn. I spend most of my time teaching kids and some adults how to hold a note or follow a rhythm. The floors are covered with simple mats because we usually sit down to practice. There are photos of musicians on the walls to give the place some character. Sangamvadi is a nice area, and being behind the apartment complex means we don't get too much street noise. In the evenings, the place gets quite full with students after school. Sometimes it gets a bit chaotic with everyone trying to tune their instruments at the same time. I usually have a pot of tea going in the small kitchen area for when I take a break. It’s a lot of repetition, going over the same scales again and again, but I don't really mind. It’s a different kind of work than sitting in an office all day. Seeing someone finally get a difficult piece of music right is a good feeling. We keep the instruments in cases when they aren't being used to keep the dust off.
