Sangeet Sagar Music School

If you walk through Bhudhdev Colony in Karelibaug, you’ll probably hear us before you see us. We are tucked away at number 56. It’s a simple setup where we teach different instruments and singing. Most afternoons are filled with the sound of harmoniums or maybe a tabla being tuned. It’s not a huge academy, just a couple of rooms where students of all ages sit down to learn. The floors are often covered with mats because we prefer sitting on the ground while practicing. Vadodara has a lot of music history, and we just fit into a small corner of it. Sometimes the neighbors complain if the drums get too loud, but mostly they’re used to it by now. We have a few cupboards filled with old music books and some spare strings. The walls have pictures of famous musicians, though some frames are a bit crooked. It gets crowded on the weekends when the school kids have their day off and come for lessons. We don't have a big fancy reception, just a desk where we keep the registers. The tea guy comes by around four o’clock, and that’s usually when we take a short break. It’s a bit dusty because of the road work nearby, but the inside feels calm once the music starts. It’s just a place for people who want to pick up a new hobby or keep an old one going.
