Ratandeep Marble Ind

You can find us in Marnigam, right near the Sadgorukrupa Saw Mill in Vadodara. It's a bit of a trek out here, but there’s more room for the heavy stone slabs. The yard is full of marble blocks and the sound of the big saws cutting through them. It’s a messy business, with water and stone dust everywhere. My shoes are usually white by the end of the shift. We get all kinds of stone coming in, and we spend our days sizing them up for floors or counters. It’s heavy work, and our backs usually ache by Friday. We don't have a fancy showroom with lights; you just see the marble as it is, raw and sitting in the sun. Sometimes the weather makes it hard to work outside, especially during the heavy rains when the yard turns to mud. I’ve been running this place for a while now, and I’ve learned that no two pieces of stone are exactly the same. People come by looking for something specific, and we walk around the stacks until they find a pattern they like. It’s a simple operation, really. Just some workers, some big blades, and a lot of rock. We don't do much advertising; the word just travels between neighbors. It’s a quiet life out here near the mill, aside from the screech of the saws. We just keep cutting stone and moving slabs day after day.
