Khadi Gram Udyog Kendra

We are located in Karelibaug, right near the Karelibaug Police Station. Being so close to the station makes us very easy to find. Our shop has been around for a long time, and we don't plan on changing much. We aren't like the new stores you see in the malls with glass fronts and air conditioning that makes you shiver. We have big open doors and the air from the street comes right in. We sell khadi and other local goods. The shelves are filled with rolls of fabric that have a very specific smell, which I’ve grown to love over the years. We spend our days measuring out meters of cloth for customers who have been coming here since they were young. Our counter is made of heavy wood and it has been worn smooth by years of use. There isn't any promotional music playing here. Usually, you just hear the sound of the traffic outside and the murmur of people talking. We don't do any big sales or use marketing tricks to get people inside. People come here because they know the quality of the handmade cloth we carry. It’s a slow business. We take our time with every person who walks in. We talk about the weather or the local news while we wrap up their purchases in plain paper. It’s a very traditional way of doing things.
