Kashmir Art Palace

You can find us at F-17 in National Plaza, which is right in the Alkapuri area of Baroda. We have been running this shop for a good while now, focusing on arts and crafts from the Kashmir region. We have heaps of shawls, carpets, and various handmade items tucked into every corner of the shop. It’s a bit of a maze inside because we try to fit as much as we can on the shelves. Alkapuri is a fancy part of town, but our shop feels more like a cozy storeroom. We spend a lot of time dusting the wood carvings and making sure the moths stay away from the wool. It’s a family-run business, so there is always someone around who knows the history of the pieces we sell. We don't have a big marketing plan. We just rely on people walking by the plaza or hearing about us from their friends. Sometimes we sit on the floor to show the larger rugs because there just isn't enough table space. It’s a bit of a workout moving those heavy carpets around, but it’s part of the job. We enjoy the colors and the patterns, even after seeing them every day for years. We just want to keep the tradition going and provide some nice things for people’s homes. It’s a quiet life for the most part, just us and our fabrics and the occasional customer looking for something special.
