Tourist Information Centre Udupi

Our place is in the Raghavendra Matha Complex on Kanakadasa Road, right in the heart of Rathabidi. If you are near the Krishna Temple, you are pretty much at our doorstep. It is a very spiritual and busy part of Udupi, with pilgrims and visitors walking by all the time. We hear the temple bells and the sounds of the crowds every day from where we sit. Our job is mostly about helping people find their way around or explaining where certain landmarks are. We have maps and some pamphlets laying around, but mostly it's just us answering questions. It can get quite hot in the afternoons, so people often duck in just to get out of the sun for a minute while they ask for directions. The complex has a traditional feel to it, which fits perfectly with the surrounding area. We don't have any high-tech gadgets or flashy displays. It’s just a counter and some local knowledge. Sometimes we spend the morning just chatting with folks who are visiting Udupi for the first time. It is a slow and steady kind of work, but it feels good to be right here where all the action is. We see the morning rituals and the evening processions from the street. It’s a unique spot to be working every day, surrounded by so much history and culture.
