The Memories

Located at 26 Bhatiyani Chohata, The Memories is tucked into a spot that gets a lot of foot traffic from people visiting the old city. The street is narrow so you have to be careful when walking. Our shop is filled with things that people like to look at, mostly small items that fit in a suitcase. We spend a lot of time dusting the shelves because the street outside gets quite dusty with all the bikes and rickshaws going by. It’s a small room and we have utilized every inch of wall space to hang things up. Most of the time, we are just sitting behind the counter waiting for someone to wander in. We talk to people from all over who are just passing through Udaipur. It’s interesting to hear where everyone is from while they browse. The building itself is old, like most things in this part of town, so the walls are thick and it stays relatively cool even when it’s hot outside. We don’t have a fancy sign or anything, just the name above the door. It’s a simple life running a shop here. We know the other shopkeepers nearby and we often share a cup of tea in the afternoon when things slow down. It’s just a regular place where we sell things that help people remember their trip, and we enjoy the daily interactions with the folks who stop by.
