Hotel Sarovar

Living and working near Pichola Lake means we see a lot of water every day. Hotel Sarovar is tucked away near Hanuman Ghat, just outside the Chandpol area. It’s an old building, so the walls are thick and the stairs are a bit narrow and steep in some spots. You have to walk a bit to get to the main spots in town, but being near the ghat is nice in the mornings when it’s quiet. We don't have those big elevators or fancy glass doors you see at the big chains. It’s just a regular place where we keep the rooms ready. Sometimes the monkeys come around the roof looking for food, so we tell people to keep their windows shut tight. The view of the lake is there if you look, but we don't make a big deal out of it, it's just what's outside the window. Our staff is mostly local guys who have been here for years. They know the shortcuts around Chandpol if you get lost on the way back. We spend our mornings scrubbing the tiles and checking the linens. It isn't a quiet corporate office, it’s more like a house for travelers. The furniture is mostly wood and has some scratches from over the years. We keep a pot of tea going in the back for ourselves and sometimes guests want some too. It’s a simple setup near the water, nothing more than that really.
