About Ananaya International School – Education in Tumakuru
The school is out in Gulur, which is on the outskirts of Tumkur. It’s a bit of a drive from the main town center, so things are a little quieter out here. We’ve got a decent amount of space, though the ground gets very dusty when the wind picks up. The morning starts with the sound of the gates opening and the staff arriving on their scooters. We spend a lot of time in the office dealing with the usual stuff like attendance records and parent queries. The building is a simple concrete structure, and we are always thinking about which walls need a new coat of paint. It’s not some high-end polished place; it feels more like a work in progress most of the time. The classrooms have basic wooden desks and we try to keep them organized, but with kids around, that doesn’t last very long. During the lunch break, you can smell everyone’s home-cooked food coming from the staff room. Tumkur can get quite hot in the afternoons, so everyone slows down a bit after one o'clock. We don't have a lot of fancy words to describe what we do here. We just show up, open the doors, and get on with the business of running a school in a rural area. It's a lot of small tasks that add up to a long day, from fixing a broken tap to sorting out the mail. We are just local people trying to provide a decent place for learning.
