Our small group operates out of Sevoor Village, specifically at No. 238 on Amman Kovil Street. We are all farmers from the Arani Taluk region who decided that joining up was the best way to keep our farms going. Most of us have been around Tiruvannamalai our whole lives. We aren't businessmen in suits; we are people who spend our days in the sun and soil. The office is just a practical necessity for us to keep track of what everyone is growing and what we need to buy. We spend a lot of time discussing the best ways to handle the crops and dealing with the everyday chores of running a farm. It’s not always pretty, and sometimes we disagree on things, but we always work it out because we are neighbors. We don't have a PR person or a marketing budget. Everything we do is through word of mouth and hard work. When you come by Sevoor, you’ll see us moving bags of grain or sitting under a tree talking about the next harvest. It’s a simple life, but it’s ours. We wanted to make sure that the collective stays focused on the actual farmers. It takes a lot of effort to keep the books straight and the fields producing, but doing it together makes the burden a bit lighter for everyone involved in the group. It is about the community.
