Vimal Industries, Mumbai

Vimal Industries has been at this spot in Nehru Nagar for a good many years. We are on 3rd Street, which gets quite crowded during the mornings. It's funny because the name says Mumbai but we are right here in Ambattur. We've got a small workshop at No: 18. The building used to be numbered 9, so sometimes people get lost looking for us. We do a lot of industrial work. It's dusty and loud most of the time. My brother and I manage most of the daily tasks. We don’t have a big fancy reception area. If you come by, you’ll probably find us on the shop floor with grease on our hands. The machines are old but they still run fine if you know how to handle them. We deal with various local clients. Every day is different. One day we are fixing a part, the next we are shipping out a bulk order. It’s a lot of standing on your feet. We have a few regular workers who have been with us since the start. We drink a lot of tea to stay going. The street outside is always full of lorries and cycles. It makes loading things a bit of a challenge. We just get on with it though. It’s not the most modern place, but it works for what we do.
