If you’re ever near the Redhills Bus Stop on GNT Road, you’ve probably passed by No. 216. That’s where D R Furniture & Electronics is located. Being so close to the bus stop means there’s always people walking by and a lot of dust blowing in from the road. We’ve got sofas and cupboards lined up along with fridges and TVs in the shop. It’s a bit of a mix, which makes the floor look a bit crowded and tight. We don’t have those fancy, glowing displays you see in the big malls. Here, everything is out where you can touch it and see if it’s sturdy enough for your home. Sometimes we’re moving a heavy wooden wardrobe across the floor while someone else is trying to test out a new television nearby. It gets a bit hectic, especially in the evenings when people are heading home from work and stop in to browse. We’ve been here a while, so we know most of the regular commuters and shopkeepers by sight. The shop isn’t air-conditioned, so we keep the big front doors wide open and hope for a breeze during the hot months. We don’t have a sales script or any promotional gimmicks. We just tell people what we know about the products and let them decide for themselves. It’s a very local way of doing things, and we like it that way. It’s just a normal shop run by regular people who work hard.
