Our office is at No.3/7 on Mariyamman Kovil Street in Mottur Village. It’s right near the temple, so we hear the bells and the activity from the street all day long. Senganthal Farmer Producer Company Limited was started by people here in the Chockkanathapuram Post area who know what it’s like to work the land. We named the company after the flame lily, which is a flower many of us around here recognize. Our daily routine involves a lot of talking with the local growers who stop by after their morning work. The office is just a simple room with a couple of fans and some sturdy tables. We keep our records in big ledgers and on a small computer that sometimes acts up when it’s too hot. Life in Mottur is slow but busy in its own way. We have to keep track of what everyone is growing and when it will be ready for market. It’s a lot of responsibility because people depend on us to get things right. Sometimes we sit outside on the porch when the power goes out, just chatting about the next season. We don't have any fancy marketing people or big plans to change the world. We just want to make sure the farmers in our village get a fair shake and that the business stays running for the long haul.
