Out here in S.P Nagar, specifically on South Street, we have Mpevds Viralimalai Farmer Producer Company Limited. Our location is quite close to the Madurai Main Road, so there is always the sound of buses and trucks in the background. We are a small group of local people who decided to put this company together to help out the farmers in Viralimalai. It’s not a fancy operation by any means. Our office is just a simple room with a few wooden chairs and a ceiling fan that makes a bit of noise. Most of the time, we are busy talking to the people from the surrounding villages about their crops. We don't use any complicated software or have a big team of experts. It’s just us, sitting down and looking at what needs to be done for the next season. Some days are slow, especially when the heat is bad, and we just sit and drink tea while waiting for the sun to go down. Madurai Main Road stays busy until late at night, and sometimes we are still here finishing up the paperwork. We don’t have any big corporate goals. We just want to make sure that the people growing the food get a fair chance at things. It’s a lot of talking and a lot of listening. We keep things plain and simple because that’s what we know about life and work.
