Vasantham Sustainable Farmer Producer Company Limited

Down on Keela Street in Mela Seedevimangalam, that’s where you’ll find our little setup. We’re part of the Manachanallur area. Vasantham is just a group of us who wanted to try farming in a way that doesn’t wear out the soil so fast. We call it sustainable, but really it’s just trying to be smart with what we have. Our office at No 35/18 is pretty basic. We spend most of our time out in the dirt anyway. It’s a lot of trial and error. Some things work and some things don’t. We talk to each other about what bugs are around and how the water is holding up. It’s a cooperative effort. We don’t have fancy equipment, just what we’ve managed to scrape together over the years. People in the village know us as the ones always messing with compost and natural stuff. It takes more work than the old ways sometimes, but we think it’s worth it. We aren’t trying to change the world, just our own little patch of it. The days are long and the work is tiring, but seeing a healthy crop come up feels good. We just take it day by day. There’s always something to weed or something to fix. We keep our heads down and stay busy. It's a simple life and we're okay with that. Most of the time, we are just happy to see the plants growing well.
