Kalayaperumal Fabrication

Our shop, Kalayaperumal Fabrication, is right on Hariharan Bazzar Street at number 35. We are situated very close to Shanthi Readymade, which is a big help when we’re trying to give people directions. The bazaar street is always full of energy, with people shopping for clothes and groceries just a few doors down from where sparks are flying and metal is being cut. It’s a bit of an odd mix, having a fabrication shop in the middle of all those retail stores, but it works for us. The space inside is long and narrow, so we have to be careful how we stack the iron and the equipment so we don't trip over everything. It’s always a bit noisy, and sometimes the shopkeepers nearby complain if we start too early, but we’ve lived with it for years. The smell of the street is a mix of fried food from the stalls and the metallic scent from our welding. We don't have a big sign out front, just the name painted on the wall, but people find us anyway. Most of our work comes from folks who are already in the bazaar for something else and remember they need some metalwork done. It’s a busy, cramped, and lively place to work. We don't have any fancy mission statements; we just show up, open the shutters, and get to the tasks on the list.
