Hotel Roja Thottam

We have been operating at the Kanganire Complex on Madurai Road for a good number of years. It’s a busy spot in Manaparai, especially being right opposite the Karpagam Theatre. People usually find us because of that landmark. We are a simple hotel, not one of those big modern ones with glass walls. The building is a bit older, but we keep it going as best as we can. Most of our days are spent checking people in and making sure the rooms are ready for the next person. The road outside can get noisy with all the buses and lorries going towards Trichy, but that is just part of living here. We don’t have a fancy kitchen, but there are places to eat nearby. Our staff are local people from the neighborhood. We don’t use a lot of technology; we mostly just talk to people and write things down in our book. Sometimes the power goes out, but we have a generator that we kick on when we need to. It’s a practical place for someone who just needs to stay the night. We don’t have a big mission or anything, we just provide a place to sleep and a bathroom. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy. We like being part of the bustle on Madurai Road. If you are coming through Manaparai and see the theatre, you’ll see us right across the way.
