Sulbha Tamarind

We’re located at 5095, Baratoti Karanja, in the Maliwada area. As the name suggests, we deal mostly with tamarind, which is a bit of a messy business but we enjoy it. The smell of the fruit is always in the air around our place. Maliwada is an old part of the city, and our building at Baratoti Karanja has been there for a long time. It’s got thick walls which helps keep it a bit cooler during the summer months, which is good for the stock. We spend a lot of our time sorting through the bags and making sure everything is dry. It’s manual work, not much automation here. We have a few local women who come in to help with the cleaning and packing. They’ve been working with us for years and know exactly what to look for. The street outside is narrow, so we usually have to move the bags by hand to the main road where the trucks can park. It’s a lot of physical effort, but that’s just the nature of the tamarind trade. We don’t do much in the way of marketing or big branding. People know us because we’ve been in Maliwada for so long. We just focus on getting the product ready and sent out to the local markets. It’s a simple life, and we’re quite content with how things are running.
