D D M English High School & Junior College is right in the heart of Charai, over in Thane West. It’s a crowded area with lots of shops and old buildings nearby. Our school takes up a fair bit of space in the neighborhood. We cover everything from the younger years up through junior college, so we see students for a long time, sometimes from when they are five until they are eighteen. The building has been modified and added onto over the years to make room for everyone. It’s a bit of a maze if you aren’t used to it. Since we have science, commerce, and arts streams, there’s always something different happening in different wings. The labs have that old-school smell of chemicals and the commerce rooms are usually full of talk about accounts. It’s a busy life here in Thane. The street outside is always bustling with people going to the market or the station. Our gates are always a focal point when school lets out. We don’t have a lot of green space, being in such a central city location, but we make use of every corner we have. The staff are local people, many of whom have lived in Thane all their lives. We just provide a place for the neighborhood kids to study and get their certificates. It’s a very local, down-to-earth institution that just keeps going year after year.
