Narayani English High School

Kalyan East can be a bit crowded. The Jari Mari Mandir is a landmark everyone knows. We have been running Narayani English High School here for years. It’s not a giant campus but we make it work with what we have. Most of the kids come from the nearby chawls and buildings around the temple road. Every morning there is a big rush at the gate. The teachers are mostly local people from Thane or Kalyan who take the train or auto to get here. We don’t have fancy air conditioning or anything like that, just basic classrooms with benches and fans. Sometimes the fans make noise, but the students don’t mind much. We spend a lot of time on English since that’s what parents want for their children these days. There are sports days once a year in the small ground nearby. It gets dusty, but the kids love it. We try to keep the fees low because families around here aren’t made of money. It’s a lot of paperwork and managing the staff, but when you see a batch pass out, it feels okay. Life at the school is just busy from June till May, with a short break for Diwali. We don’t do much advertising, people just know us from word of mouth in the neighborhood. It is a simple place where we try to do our job properly and keep the kids on the right track.
