C. Kishinchand

If you ever come down to the APMC Fruit Market in Vashi, you can find us at stall F-67. It’s right in the thick of things. The market is a crazy place, especially at four or five in the morning when the trucks start rolling in from the farms. We have been at this spot for years. The name C. Kishinchand is painted on the board above the stall, though it's gotten a bit faded from the sun and rain. There’s always crates of fruit stacked high, sometimes all the way to the ceiling. We spend our mornings sorting through what’s come in and talking to the buyers. It’s loud, it’s messy, and there’s always water on the floor from cleaning the produce. We don’t have a desk or a quiet office; we mostly just stand around or sit on empty wooden crates when we have a spare minute. Dealing with fresh fruit means things move fast. You can't let stuff sit around too long. By the time most of the city is just waking up, we’ve already done half a day’s work. The Vashi market is huge, but once you know your way around, it feels like a small village where everyone knows each other. We drink a lot of tea from the guy who walks around with the kettle. It’s just how we do things here. No fancy business talk, just fruit and hard work.
