About Shri Hari Om Mithai – Food & Beverages in Surat
Being on Varachha Road 282 means there is never a quiet moment. We start way before the sun comes up because the milk arrives early and there is a lot to do. My hands usually smell like cardamom or sugar by ten in the morning. Shri Hari Om Mithai isn’t a huge place, just a regular shop with some glass counters. We spend a lot of time stirring big pots in the back room. It gets hot back there, especially in the summer months, but that's part of the job. Most of the people who come in are regulars who live just a few streets away. They know us by name and we know what they usually like. We don't spend much on decorations or fancy signs. The floor is old but we keep it scrubbed. Sometimes we run out of things earlier than expected if there’s a local festival going on nearby. It can get a bit hectic then, with everyone talking at once. We just pack things up in the boxes and try to keep the line moving. It is hard work standing all day, but seeing the same faces every morning makes it feel okay. We’ve been at this spot for a while now and we don’t plan on going anywhere else. The noise of the traffic outside is just part of our daily life now.
