Shree Datar Engineering Works

Out here in Ichhapore, near the Sanathal post, we run this small engineering workshop. It’s mostly metal scraps, welding machines, and the sound of grinders going all day. The roof is corrugated metal, so it gets really loud when it rains. We do a lot of repair work for local machinery or whatever parts people bring in. It’s a dusty place. My hands are usually covered in oil or metal shavings. We don't have an office with a desk, just a small table where we keep the bills and a few pens. It’s not the kind of place you’d visit if you’re wearing nice clothes. We just focus on getting the bits of iron and steel to fit together or fixing a broken frame. Some days are slow and we just sit outside for a bit, other days we’re working late under a single light bulb. We’ve been in this area for a good bit of time. People know us for being honest about what can be fixed and what’s just scrap. We don't have any big signs or advertisements. The gate stays open and the dogs from the street sometimes wander in for shade. It’s just basic manual labor and knowing how to handle the tools. We don't make it complicated. If it's broken and made of metal, we see if we can weld it back together. That's the way it goes here.
