Shivam Sweet & Snacks

You can find Shivam Sweet & Snacks over at G/11 on the Udhna Mahalaxmi Cross Road. We opened up here because it’s a central spot where a lot of people pass through on their way to work or home. The kitchen in the back is where most of the action happens. We start pretty early, usually before the sun is fully up, to get the first batches of snacks ready for the morning crowd. There is always the smell of frying oil and sugar syrup in the air, which we don't even notice anymore, but people tell us they can smell it from down the block. The display counter is made of glass and we try to keep it wiped down, though fingerprints from kids looking at the sweets are a constant thing. It’s a small space, so when more than five people come in at once, it feels very crowded. We’ve got a couple of ceiling fans that hum loudly all day to keep the heat down from the stoves. We don't have fancy uniforms or a big staff, just a few of us making sure the trays are full and the food is fresh. Sometimes we run out of the popular items by late afternoon, and we just have to tell people to come back tomorrow. It’s a simple business, and we like being part of the daily routine here at the cross road.
