Rajen Wafers

We are based at Number 3 in Bhagwati Society. It’s a bit of an interesting spot because we are near the H. J. Steel Factory and right on the Mother Teresa Ashram Road. If you are looking for us, we are opposite the Dipak Gas Godown on Dudhsagar Marg. The smell of frying wafers is usually the first thing you notice when you get near our unit. It’s a small-scale operation, so it feels more like a kitchen than a big factory. We have the frying vats and the packing area all in one space. It gets quite hot, especially in the middle of the day, so we keep the doors open to let the air circulate. The floor can get a little slippery from the oil, so we are always cleaning it up. We don’t have a separate office; we just do our paperwork at a small desk in the corner. The bags of potatoes or other materials are stacked up against the walls. We are a small team and everyone does a bit of everything, from peeling to packing. Most of the neighbors in Bhagwati Society are used to the noise and the smells by now. We don’t have fancy packaging machines, just simple ones that get the bags sealed up. It’s a lot of manual work, but we like being right here on the ground. People from the neighborhood sometimes stop by just to see what’s cooking or to pick up a fresh bag.
