Bharat Engineering Works

Being located at Gidc Plot No. C1/3614 means we are right in the middle of all the industrial action. Bharat Engineering Works is a place with grease on the floor and the smell of cut metal in the air. We don't have a receptionist or a waiting room with magazines. Usually, if you come by, you'll find us out back with the lathes or the welding equipment. It's loud and it can get hot in the summer, but we don't mind it much. It’s just the job. We’ve got machines that have been with us for a long time, and we know exactly how they sound when they’re working right. Sometimes a part breaks and we have to figure out a way to fix it ourselves because waiting for a spare takes too long. That’s how you learn things, I guess. We take on whatever comes through the gate, whether it's a small repair or something that takes a few weeks to finish. We don't talk much while we're working, mostly because you can't hear anything over the sound of the shop anyway. When the whistle blows at the end of the day, we wash our hands, lock the gate at C1/3614, and head home. Tomorrow it all starts again at the same time. It's practical work for practical people, and we've been doing it this way for as long as I can remember. We just keep our heads down and do the work.
