Dharti Namkeen is tucked away in Udhnagam at Heaven Enclave, specifically at A 10/8. It is a quiet enough spot compared to the main roads, but we still have plenty to do. Most of the day is spent bagging up different snacks and making sure the jars are full. The air in here usually smells like fried spices and salt, which stays on your clothes long after you leave. We have stacks of boxes in the corner that we haven't quite found a permanent place for yet. It is a small shop, so we have to use the space we have efficiently. Neighbors from the enclave come in often just to say hello or pick up something small to eat with their tea. The lighting is just a couple of long tubes on the ceiling that flicker a bit sometimes. We don't really have a big staff, just a few of us who know where everything is kept. When the afternoon sun hits the front window, it gets pretty bright inside for a couple of hours. We have a small counter where we count out the change and chat with whoever is buying. It is not a complicated business. We just make sure the namkeen is ready and the door is open for anyone who walks by. Sometimes the kids play right outside on the sidewalk while we work. It is just our daily life here in this part of Surat.
